Located in the heart of Houston’s upscale Autry Park, Mayahuel is a contemporary tribute to the rich culinary traditions of Mexico, blending heritage and innovation with bold, seasonal ingredients.

Position Overview:
As Sommelier at Mayahuel, you’ll lead the development and execution of a world-class wine program tailored to our modern Mexican menu, with a strong focus on Mexican and Latin American wines, alongside carefully curated international selections. This role requires a confident floor presence, a collaborative spirit, and a drive to elevate every guest experience through thoughtful pairings, education, and storytelling. 
You'll work closely with Chef Robledo and our leadership team to shape the culture and identity of one of Houston’s most anticipated new restaurants. 
 
Key Responsibilities 
  • Operational Management & Leadership & Assist in Daily Operations
  • Collaborate with the General Manager to ensure smooth day-to-day operations
  • Assist in budgeting, forecasting, and controlling labor and operational costs, ensuring the restaurant meets its financial goals. 
  • Active floor presence and leadership responsibilities during service 
  • Monitor and maintain service quality and food and beverage standards across the restaurant. 
  • Develop and maintain a diverse, innovative wine list that complements our modern Mexican menu, with an emphasis on Mexican and Latin American wines, as well as international selections. 
  • Build and nurture strong relationships with wine distributors, vineyards, and suppliers to ensure access to quality wines and favorable purchasing agreements. 
  • Design and deliver comprehensive wine education programs for the service team, including tastings, pairing recommendations, and service techniques. 
  • Oversee wine inventory, ordering, and cost control processes to optimize profitability while ensuring the wine selection remains fresh and exciting. 
  • Serve as a wine ambassador, interacting with guests to enhance their dining experience through expert wine recommendations and education. 
Qualifications
Experience:
  • Minimum of 5 years in management role within a high-volume, upscale restaurant environment. 
  • Proven expertise in wine selection, program development, and wine service. 
Education & Certifications:
  • Sommelier certification, level 2 preferred 
Wine Knowledge & Expertise:
  • Possess in-depth knowledge of different grape varieties, wine regions, vintages, and flavor profiles. 
  • Stay updated on industry trends and new releases. 
  • Conduct wine tastings and train staff on wine service standards
  • Develop and update wine lists, ensuring a diverse and high-quality selection
  • Collaborate with chefs to create food and wine pairings
  • Manage wine inventory, ordering, and storage

Compensation: $58,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
